Mowing wet meadows at the Tiefenbach

On Saturday, a wet meadow in the Tiefenbach valley with a particularly high amount of Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera) has been mown.

Due to the impassable terrain, a light and manoeuvrable mowing tractor from the Austrian company Reform was used. With double tyres on both axles and at the same time a low weight, it is possible to work without damaging the soil. The mowing width of the double blade mower enables a time-efficient processing.

The mown area has been lying fallow for some time and was previously grazed. Over the years, a few plants had become dominant, such as stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) or honey grass (Holcus lanatus). In addition, the himalayan balsam entered the floodplain via illegal green waste disposal. Regular mowing will drive back the balsam and, in the medium term, break the dominance of individual species. This will clear the way for greater biodiversity.

The area will be cleared on Tuesday.
