Mowing was carried out at the Emsenbach

Quite late in the year, part of the grassland acquired in our project is mowed. Almost 4.6 hectares in the valleys of Tiefenbach, Belgenbach, Kluckbach and Holderbach are to be kept open permanently as species-rich meadows. If the areas are left on their own, a few species will dominate and displace others. In the medium term, trees and shrubs will also seed, and the grassland will, in the long term, turn into forest.

18 volunteers tackle the Himalayan Balsam

Butterfly of the year 2025

The butterfly of the year is a diurnal moth - the Spanish flag (Euplagia quadripunctaria). The range of the species within Germany in recent decades documents a consequence of climate change - the migration of warmth-adapted animal and plant species from southern Europe to the north.

3000 Trees

More than 3,000 trees were planted in four project areas at the end of November. This action was part of the “forest conversion” measure, in which monotonous spruce forest is converted into species-rich deciduous forest.

Save the date!!!

The team of the LIFE project “Patches & Corridors” is organizing an international symposium with the title “Violet Copper, climate change and nature conservation” on 22 and 23 May 2025. The presentations will focus on the occurrence of Lycaena helle in different regions of Europe and perspectives on butterfly conservation in the context of climate change. Two excursions will lead to typical habitats of the Violet Copper in the Northern Eifel. The event will be held in two languages (German and English) and will be simultaneously translated by an interpreter. The venue will be the Aukloster in Monschau (Aachen region).
