Last Saturday, in response to the call of the administration of Monschau, the StädteRegion Aachen and the LIFE project "Patches & Corridors", around 40 volunteers got together to fight the himalayan balsam under the motto "Monschau rupft!" ("Monschau pulls up").

Despite the scorching heat and aggravating corona hygiene conditions, the volunteers were prepared to work for nature conservation. Among them were the DIAWA (WABe e.V. at the Diakonisches Netzwerk Aachen), the local mayor of Monschau, the Eifel Association, the Kalterherberg fishing club, the Monschau volunteer fire brigade or administrative staff of the city of Monschau and the StädteRegion Aachen.

The control of the neophyte is one of many tasks in the EU project LIFE "Patches & Corridors". What started as a Sisyphean task is now already showing its first, really good successes. The commitment of entrepreneurs, professional volunteers (Bufdis) and volunteers is working: the number of plants is decreasing continuously every year! This means that the amount of work is also decreasing. Nevertheless, the task must be pursued consistently and thoroughly. Otherwise one will give up everything that has been achieved so far.

Many thanks to all who have supported us!
