Measures implemented in the area of alluvial forest development

We had actually imagined the beginning of the forest restructuring differently. It was planned to remove about 4 hectares of spruce forest in winter 2019/20 on the slopes of the Rur valley. The extreme bark beetle infestation throughout Germany put a damper on our plans. At the moment we found neither a forestry company for felling nor a sawmill for processing. The processing of damaged wood has priority.

Only the purchase of new coniferous wood plantations enabled us to become active. The work is less extensive and the wood is not of economic importance. A smaller area in the Kluckbach valley has now been cleared. The natural regeneration of of deciduous trees and shrubs can still develop. The planting of native trees is planned. Depending on the situation, e.g. red beech, English oak, alder or mountain elm are possible. If we are succesful in its cultivation, Wych elm would be a target species. We will see.
